Montana UI audit response

Montana reviews go smoother when your response is organized by payee and your totals reconcile to a clear source export for the audit period.

Not legal advice. This is administrative guidance for organizing records and responding clearly.

Montana “what’s different”

Montana requests are easier when you keep your packet small but complete: roster, totals, trail, and proof per payee where needed. The goal is to make verification quick.

What to expect (Montana)

  • A records request with a defined period and deadline.
  • Requests for wage/payment detail and supporting source documentation.
  • Follow-ups when totals don’t reconcile or documentation is incomplete.

What to pull first (Montana checklist)

A) Period summary

  • Audit period dates + one-page totals summary.
  • Reporting summaries/confirmations (if available).

B) Payment trail

  • Bank statements and/or processor exports for the audit period.
  • Payee register with purpose labels.

C) Proof per payee

  • W-9 (if applicable)
  • Invoices
  • Scope documentation (work order / SOW / engagement emails / proposal acceptance)
  • Approvals (if used)
  • Work evidence for repeat/high-dollar payees
Audit-ready tip

If you have payees paid by milestone (not hourly), make that obvious in the roster using purpose labels like “milestone 1,” “deliverable,” or “project phase.”
